Kingston Transit service adjustments - UPDATED MONDAY, JANUARY 23

Effective Monday, January 23, 2023, Route 4 will return to 30-minute Monday-Saturday daytime service.  Buses will operate every 30 minutes from 6:15 a.m.-7:15 p.m., Monday-Saturday.  Schedules in shelters and on this website reflect the adjusted schedule.

Service remains temporarily reduced on select routes in order to continue to provide high-quality, efficient service for the whole of the transit system.  Staffing shortages, which have impacted many industries, are contributing to short-term service reductions. Kingston Transit is diligently working to recruit more drivers to restore services to pre-pandemic levels. As new operators are added, service will be restored to affected routes. 

Impacted routes 

  • Route 11 will provide hourly service Monday to Saturday. The Sunday schedule will not be affected. Route 11 trips will depart from the Cataraqui Centre Transfer Point at 45 minutes past the hour and the Kingston Centre Transfer Point at 15 minutes past the hour.   

  • Route 12 will provide hourly service Monday to Saturday. The Sunday schedule will not be affected. Route 12 trips will depart from the Kingston Centre Transfer Point at 45 minutes past the hour and CFB Kingston at 15 minutes past the hour.   

  • Route 15 will provide hourly service Monday to Saturday. The Sunday schedule will not be affected. Route 15 trips will depart Reddendale at 15 minutes past the hour, Cataraqui Centre Transfer Point to Cataraqui Woods on the hour and Cataraqui Centre Transfer Point to Reddendale at 30 minutes past the hour. 

Updated schedule information will be available online and on the real-time apps, Transit: Subway & Bus Times, Google Maps and Moovit. Updates will also be posted on Kingston Transit’s social media channels.

Kingston Transit service adjustments

UPDATED SEPTEMBER 1, 2023

Effective Thursday, July 21, Kingston Transit will temporarily reduce service on select routes in order to continue to provide high-quality, efficient service for the whole of the transit service. Kingston Transit continues to operate on the same reduced service schedule as outlined below:

Weekday service
Express routes will operate on a 30-minute service level from approximately 6 a.m. – midnight. During morning and afternoon peak periods, service will operate every 15 minutes on all Express routes, with the following exceptions:

  • Route 502 during the morning peak period, which will operate on 10-minute service
  • Route 501 during the afternoon peak period, which will operate on 10-minute service
  • Routes 501 and 502 during the weekday midday period, which will operate on 20-minute service
  • Routes 801/802 which will operate on 20-minute service during morning and afternoon peak periods, and on 40-minute service at all other times.

Local routes will operate on pre-pandemic service level (including Routes 17A/17D/17P/17W, 18, and 20), with the following exceptions:

  • Route 11 will operate on hourly service
  • Route 12 will operate on hourly service
  • Route 15 will operate on hourly service

Saturday/Sunday service
All Express routes will operate on pre-pandemic service levels, excepting Routes 801/802 which will operate on 40-minute service.  Local routes will operate on pre-pandemic service levels (including Routes 17A/17D/17P/17W and 18) with the following exceptions:

  • Route 11 will operate on hourly service
  • Route 12 will operate on hourly service
  • Route 15 will operate on hourly service

2024-03-11 - TSA - Causeway - 12

March 29-May 2 – Evening & weekend LaSalle Causeway closures - Route out of service

UPDATED 1:35 P.M. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27

The LaSalle Causeway evening and weekend closures will continue from Friday, March 29 until Thursday, May 2.  Closures continue to take place weeknights (Monday-Friday) after 8 p.m., and all day on the Saturday and Sunday.  During these times, Route 12 will not operate

  • Express Route 701/702 will service Route 12 stops on Brock (west of the Downtown Transfer Point), Johnson (between Regent and Bagot), and Palace.
  • Route 3 will continue to service the stops at Brock/City Hall (north side) and Johnson/Wellington (south side).
  • The Route 12A east-end shuttle will service stops at Highway 2/Highway 15 and on Niagara Park every 30 minutes, departing CANEX at :10 and :40 past the hour, and departing Bus Terminal Platform 2 at :25 and :55 past the hour:
  • All other stops (including on CFB Kingston, Park, and Regent) will be out of service during the Causeway closures.

During the Causeway closure dates, Route 12 will continue to operate as usual from 6 a.m.-7:45 p.m. Monday-Friday.

2024-03-11 - TSA - Causeway

March 29-May 3 – Evening & weekend LaSalle Causeway closures

UPDATED 1:40 P.M. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27

The LaSalle Causeway evening and weekend closures will continue from Friday, March 29 until Thursday, May 2.  Closures will continue to take place weeknights (Monday-Friday) after 8 p.m., and all day on the Saturday and Sunday.  During these times, Express Route 601/602 will detour between the Downtown Transfer Point and Highway 15/Gore via Montreal and the Waaban Crossing.  Regular evening/weekend service will continue to be provided to stops between Rideau Town Centre and the Innovation Drive Park & Ride.

A shuttle (Route 12A) will provide service between Niagara Park/CANEX and the Bus Terminal Transfer Point every 30 minutes, departing CANEX at :10 and :40 past the hour, and departing Bus Terminal Platform 2 at :25 and :55 past the hour:

Riders may transfer between the Route 12A and Express Route 601/602 at accessible temporary stops at the Highway 15/Gore intersection.

Stops at Royal Military College (both sides of Highway 2), Slush Puppie Place, and Barrack/King will be out of service during the Causeway closures.  The detour has been adjusted for Express Route 601 to service its regular Downtown Transfer Point Platform 7 during these times (PLEASE NOTE REVISED DOWNTOWN STOP LOCATION).

During the Causeway closure dates, Express Route 601/602 will continue to operate as usual from 6 a.m.-7:45 p.m. Monday-Friday.

January 15 - Stops entering service - Princess Street

Route 19 Woodhaven buses will begin servicing the new accessible stops on Princess Street at Holden (north side), Woodhaven (north side), and Rosanna (north side) as of start of day Monday, January 15.

2024-01-08 - TSA - Cedarwood

January 8 - Stop relocation - Cedarwood Drive at Basswood/Pinewood

The Route 15 stop on Cedarwood Drive (south side) at Basswood has been relocated to the new accessible concrete pad one-half block east (at Pinewood west portal) as of Monday, January 8.

December 4 - Stop out of service - Henderson Boulevard at Glen Castle (south side)

The Express Route 502 stop on Henderson Boulevard at Glen Castle (south side) will be permanently removed from service at end of day Sunday, December 3.  As of Monday, December 4, Express Route 502 buses may be boarded at the new Jim Beattie Park Express Station on Henderson at Chelsea (south side, two blocks west), or at the new Express stop on Henderson at McEwen (south side, three blocks east).

November 28 - Stop entering service - Henderson Boulevard at McEwen

Effective at start of service Tuesday, November 28, Express Route 502 buses will begin servicing the accessible Route 6 stop on Henderson Boulevard at McEwen (south side).

November 27 - Station entering service

The Transit Station at Jim Beattie Park (north side) has entered service, and Express Route 502 will begin servicing this stop as of Monday, November 27.

2023-10-16 - TSA - Lakeview

October 16 - Stop entering service - Henderson Boulevard at Lakeview

Effective at start of service Monday, October 16, Express Route 501 buses will begin servicing an accessible stop on Henderson Boulevard at Lakeview (north side).

2023-10-16 - TSA - Glen Castle

October 16 - Stop out of service - Henderson Boulevard at Glen Castle (north side)

The Express Route 501 stop on Henderson Boulevard at Glen Castle (north side) will be permanently removed from service at end of day Sunday, October 15.  As of Monday, October 16, Express Route 501 buses may be boarded at the new Jim Beattie Park Express Station on Henderson at Chelsea (north side, two blocks west), or at the new Express stop on Henderson at Lakeview (north side, three blocks east).

October 3 - Station entering service

The Transit Station at Jim Beattie Park has entered service, and Express Route 501 will begin servicing this stop as of start of service Tuesday, October 3.

March 30 - Road closure - University Avenue (UPDATED)

UPDATED 9:20 A.M. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29

Effective start of day Thursday, March 30, and continuing until further notice, the University Avenue detour will be changed for Route 20 buses as conditions on Alfred have cleared.  The detours for Express Route 601/602, Express Route 801/802, Route 17A An Clachan, and Route 17P Princess/Albert are unchanged.  University Avenue remains closed between Earl and Union until further notice to allow for safe removal of debris from demolition of a nearby building.  During this time, the following detours will be in effect:

  • Express Routes 601/602: from the intersection of University and Earl, Express Route 601 buses will detour right to Earl, left to Albert, and left to Stuart to resume regular route.  The stop on University at Union will be out of service; Express Route 601/602 buses will continue to service the Route 17/20 stop on University at Earl (west side).
  • Express Routes 801/802: from the Downtown Transfer Point, buses will detour to the Queen's/Kingston General Hospital Express stop via Bagot, West, King, Lower University, and Stuart.  The stop on University at Union will be out of service; Express Route 801 buses will not service the stop on Brock at Barrie, however this stop remains in service for all other routes.
  • Route 17A An Clachan: from the intersection of University and Earl, buses will detour right to Earl, left to Alfred, and right to Union to resume regular route.  The stop on University at Union will be out of service.
  • Route 17P Princess/Albert: from the intersection of Union and University, buses will detour left to Union, right to Alfred, right to Earl, and left to University.  The stop on University at Earl (east side) will be out of service; buses will service a temporary stop on Earl at University (south side).
  • Route 20 Princess/Albert: effective Thursday, March 30, from the intersection of Union and Alfred, buses will detour left to Alfred, right to Earl, and left to University to resume regular route.  Buses will resume servicing the stop on University at Brock (east side).
  • Route 20 Queen's West Campuseffective Thursday, March 30, from the intersection of University and Johnson, buses will continue straight on University, right to Earl, left to Alfred, and right to Union to resume regular route.  Route 20 buses will not service the stop at University/Union; please board buses at University/Earl or at Union/Alfred.

2022-09-12 - TSA - VIA

September 12 - Service change - VIA Rail Station (south side of John Counter)

Effective Monday, September 12, Route 18 Train Station buses will not service the shelter on John Counter at Old Mill.  Route 18 buses will continue to service the stop on Old Mill just outside the VIA Rail station (one-half block south), and Routes 7 and 16 will continue to service the shelter on John Counter.

2021-08-05 - TSA - King

August 5 - Temporary stop move - King Street West at Trailhead (north side)

Starting Thursday, August 5, and continuing until further notice, the Express Route 501/Route 6 Cataraqui Centre stop on King at Trailhead (north side) will be temporarily relocated to an accessible pad approximately 100 metres east of the King/Trailhead intersection (toward 1000 King West) due to construction.

2020-11-02 - TSA - WI

November 2 - Temporary route change - Ontario Street at Wolfe Island Ferry Dock

Starting Monday, November 2, and continuing until further notice, Express Route 602 and CFB Kingston-bound Route 12 buses will detour away from Ontario between Queen and The Tragically Hip to accommodate the Wolfe Island Ferry Dock reconstruction project.  Buses will exit the Downtown Transfer Point northbound via Bagot, then will detour straight, right to Barrack, and left to Ontario to resume regular route.  Southbound Express Route 601 and Kingston Centre-bound Route 12 buses are unaffected.  The Express stop on Ontario at the Wolfe Island Ferry Dock (east side) will be out of service during this time; please board buses at the temporary accessible stop on Barrack and King (one block west).

2020-08-31 - TSA - Princess

August 31 - Temporary stop move - Princess Street at Albert

Starting Monday, August 31, and continuing until further notice, the Express stop on Princess Street at Albert (north side) will be shifted to an accessible temporary stop one block west (on Princess at Nelson north side) to accommodate construction on adjacent property.

2020-03-02 - TSA - Princess

March 2 - Temporary stop move - Princess Street at University

Starting Monday, March 2, and continuing until further notice, the Route 4 Cataraqui Centre stop on Princess Street at University will be temporarily shifted one-half block east (to the northeast corner of the intersection, outside 479 Princess) due to construction adjacent to the stop.

2017-09-05 - TSA - CFB

September 5 - Road closure - Craftsman Boulevard

Starting Tuesday, September 5, and continuing until further notice, the gates to CFB Kingston on Craftsman Boulevard (at Highway 2 and at Highway 15) will close each night at 8 p.m., and will reopen at 5 a.m. the following morning.  Starting Tuesday, Route 12 buses will not service stops on Craftsman in either direction after 8 p.m.; buses will detour in both directions via Highways 2 and 15.

2017-05-18 - TSA - Centennial

May 19 - Centennial Drive at Atkinson

The Route 14 detour via Atkinson and Halifax has resumed, and will continue until further notice. From the intersection of Centennial and Atkinson, Route 14 buses will detour east on Atkinson, south on Halifax, and east on Crossfield to return to regular route.  The bus stop on Centennial and Atkinson will be out of service during this time; a non-accessible temporary stop will be provided on Halifax, south of Atkinson.
